KUALA LUMPUR, 23 October 2025 – A new chapter in global halal tourism is set to unfold when the Muslim-friendly cruise M/V Piano Land prepares to set sail from Port Klang, Malaysia, on 29 November 2025

Named M/V Piano Land, the cruise ship is positioned as a Muslim-friendly option at sea for the Malaysian market, offering extensive halal-friendly dining selections and prayer-friendly facilities

With capacity for 1,760 passengers across 880 cabins on 10 decks, M/V Piano Land offers a diverse experience for families, cultural explorers, and wellness enthusiasts. Guests can unwind over afternoon tea sessions onboard, combining luxury with faith-friendly comfort

Malaysia Leads Global Halal Cruise Innovation

The M/V Piano Land is a joint initiative between Astro Ocean Cruise, a Chinese cruise operator, and Hwajing Travel & Tours, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia’s vision to position itself as a global hub for Muslim-friendly tourism.

The cruise offers two itineraries:

  • A three-day, two-night voyage between Port Klang and Penang, or
  • A four-day, three-night route covering Penang and Langkawi, before returning to Port Klang.

This innovative concept aims to tap into the growing Muslim travel market, estimated at more than two billion people worldwide, by offering an inclusive cruise experience that aligns with Islamic values and lifestyle preferences.

Halal Dining, Family-Friendly Facilities and Wellness Experiences

A wide selection of halal-friendly dishes is available onboard the ship, including the signature Hong Kong–style roasted duck, with mocktails and other non-alcoholic beverages offered in the lounges

The ship also features family entertainment zones, children’s clubs, and spa and wellness programmes that promote mindful living — ensuring comfort for all age groups.

For Muslim travellers, key facilities include designated prayer rooms and faith-friendly spaces onboard

British Muslim influencer Hassan Bulbul, named Halal Travel Influencer of the Year, welcomed the initiative.

“For many Muslims, finding halal food and prayer spaces while travelling has always been a challenge. This cruise changes everything — it allows us to enjoy the full travel experience without worry,” he said.

A Major Step for the Global Halal Tourism Industry

Industry experts believe the M/V Piano Land represents a pivotal moment for halal and Muslim-friendly travel, encouraging other cruise operators to adopt similar inclusive practices.

“It’s not just for Muslims — it’s about expanding accessibility and making global travel more welcoming for everyone,” Hassan added.

As the M/V Piano Land embarks on its maiden voyage this November, Malaysia cements its leadership in Muslim-friendly hospitality, setting the stage for a new era in the global halal travel industry.
